About Calonge
Calonge is a Spanish town and hamlet belonging to the municipality of Santañí, in the southeastern part of Mallorca, an autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. Near this town are the centers of s`Horta, Cala d`Or, Alquería Blanca, Porto Colom, and es Carritxó.
The origin of the Calonge toponym is believed to have come from Gilaberto de Cruillas, lord of the town of the same name in the province of Gerona, a prominent nobleman who participated in the conquest of Mallorca in 1229.
In 1236 it appears in the historical records under the name "Alqueria Coloia".
History
Calonge is documented since the 13th century when the town was owned by the Valentín de las Torres family, among whom was Bartolomé Valentín, canon of the Cathedral of Palma. Its heritage includes its neo-Romanesque church from the beginning of the 20th century, which was designed by Father Antonio María Alcover and blessed in 1909 by Bishop Campins.

According to the National Institute of Statistics of Spain, in 2019 Calonge had 946 registered inhabitants, which represents 7.73% of the total population of the municipality.
